Airport Beach

Beach Access
In Exuma, we say that if there's someone on the beach, head to the next beach. It's often the case that you'll be alone on a pristine stretch of pure white sand admiring a thousand shades of blue. Explore and look for beach access signs, there are many beautiful spots throughout the Exuma Cays, here are some of our favorites.

Tropic of Cancer

This world famous beach lies directly on the Tropic of Cancer and is 18.5 km from Hummingbird House and about a 25 minute drive. Head South and cross the bridge to Little Exuma and watch for a Tropic of Cancer sign on the left, turn left at the sign and take the road to the beach. Parking and access is obvious.

Secret Beach

Drive South to LIttle Exuma and pass through Forbes Hill. Continue past the old pink clinic building further along, then look for a flat rock and some boulders with a dilapidated structure behind tham as the road bears right. This is your turn, there is space to park by the road. This beach connects with Tropic of Cancer by a trail through the bush and is a favorite. 15.1 km from Hummingbird House, about a 16 minute drive.

Forbes Hill Beach Access

Head South and cross the bridge to Little Exuma and pass through the town of Forbes Hill. On the left there's a beach access sign. A delightful sheltered cove with limestone formations. A short walk up the limestome reveals deep water below cliffs on the Southwest side. 14.2 km from Hummingbird House, about 16 minutes driving.

Jolly Hall

Just North of George Town at the first beach access sign on the right side of the road where a short path leads through lush foliage, Jolly Hall accesses a small bay surrounded by some of the nicest homes on the island. Sheltered and shallow, it's a great place for relaxing. Jolly Hall is 8.9 km from Hummingbird House and takes about 13 minutes.

Hooper's Bay

Head North and pass by George Town and Jolly Hall Beach Access, Hooper's Bay is the next signed access on the right. There is a large blue house with a wall on the left hand side, the beach acccess follows the wall and accesses a nice cove with a long beach. 11.6 km from Hummingbird House, about 14 minutes by car.

Airport Beach

South of the airport traffic circle on the North side of the island is an unsigned pullout that accesses this long, beautiful beach that often stuns first time visitors who head South from the airport after arrival. Perfect for walks and jogging there are less structures here than many other beaches. 18.3 km from Hummingbird House, about 21 minutes by car.

Stocking Island, Atlantic Side

Although it takes some effort to reach this beach it's well worth it! Chances are you'll have much of it to yourself and the shell collecting is some of the best around. Also, you can see stromatolites, formations created by cyanobacteria, bacteria and single-celled algeas that are up to 3 billion years old! They're a unique feature of this beach, and form a barrier between the surf and sand.
There are three ways to access the Atlantic side of Stocking Island, all of which require a water taxi which can be found at the Government Dock in George Town and costs $15.00/person to get to the Chat'n'Chill or $20/person for other desintations around the harbor. Make sure to ask the operator for a ticket with the number of people you've paid for so that you won't have to pay for a return ride from the Chat'n'Chill later in the day.
From the Chat'n'Chill, follow the Ocean Beach Path to the East. You'll have to cross a narrow section of water so this is best done around low tide.
Have a water taxi drop you at the Ocean Beach Path.
Have a water taxi drop you at Hamburger Beach and take an obvious path to the Beacon at the top of the hill where you can enjoy expansive views of the area. From there it's a quick walk down to the Atlantic side. Either arrange for a pick-up at a predetermined time back at Hamburger Beach or walk South to the Ocean Beach Path, which is easy to find, and make your way back to the Chat'n'Chill. The path back is best taken at low tide or will require a wade/swim to reach the Chat'n'Chill.
The government dock is 7 km from Hummingbird House and takes around 12 minutes to drive to. There's ample parking along the West side of the dock and in a fenced area on your right as you enter.
